We all deposit money in banks—thinking about our future needs. From what we earn today, we set aside a portion for the uncertainties of tomorrow. When we face difficult times, those savings stand by us.
But have we ever thought about depositing something with people as well, alongside money?
I call this idea “Emotional Banking”—or human investment.
There is no bank account here, no ATM card, and no calculation of interest. What we deposit is love, empathy, support, knowledge, time, opportunities, and humanity.
Today, you may help someone get a job opportunity.
Tomorrow, that very person may open a door for your child.
Today, you may help someone by sharing your knowledge.
Tomorrow, when you face a problem of your own, that knowledge may return to you through someone else.
Today, you may lend some money to someone in need.
Perhaps one day, when you are going through a difficult time, another person will stand beside you.
Today, you may give someone a little space to stay.
Tomorrow, you may be the one who needs a place to call home.
This is Emotional Banking.
Whatever goodness you deposit into people's lives may return to you, in one form or another, when you need it most.
But there is one important thing to remember—it is not a business transaction.
“I helped you, so you must help me”—this kind of calculation takes away the beauty of humanity.
Instead, our mindset should be:
“I have the ability to help you today, so I am standing beside you. Tomorrow, if I need help, someone else may stand beside me. It is this belief that allows society to move forward.”
Because everyone cannot give everything.
Someone has money—they can give financial support.
Someone has knowledge—they can share knowledge.
Someone has connections—they can create an opportunity.
Someone owns a business—they can offer a job.
Someone has an extra room—they can provide shelter.
Someone has time—they can simply sit beside a person who is helpless and alone.
And someone may have nothing more than a few kind words.
Sometimes, even those words can save a person who is emotionally broken.
You do not have to be rich to help someone; you only need to be a little more human.
In our society, we often hear people say:
“No one belongs to anyone.”
I do not agree.
People belong to one another.
We simply need to activate those human connections once again.
Imagine a society where every person does something good for at least one other person every day—sometimes by sharing knowledge, sometimes by providing financial support, sometimes by creating a job opportunity, sometimes by making a phone call, and sometimes simply by standing beside someone.
Such a society would still need hospitals, laws, governments, and institutions.
But human helplessness would be greatly reduced.
Because around us, thousands of “Emotional Bank Accounts” would be created—accounts filled with trust between people.
And the most beautiful thing is this:
When you deposit money in a bank, your balance decreases when you spend it.
But when you deposit kindness in the lives of people, it does not diminish—it multiplies.
So, starting today, each of us can open our own Emotional Bank Account.
Deposit something good into someone's life every day.
Share a job opportunity.
Teach someone a skill.
Introduce someone to the right person.
Give food to someone in need.
Support someone's medical treatment according to your ability.
Give someone your time.
Listen to someone with genuine attention.
Or simply say:
“Don't worry. I am here for you.”
Remember—
The greatest wealth in life is not your bank balance; it is the trust that people have deposited in their hearts for you.
Stand beside someone today.
Tomorrow, someone may stand beside you.
That is Emotional Banking.
That is the new economy of a humane society.
And perhaps, this is how we can create a slightly better world.
